Karin's little man

Thought I would share this with you all.

My little angel placed 3rd in our local baby competition. Here sits a very proud mother. I focus on this angel of mine as my other ‘angel’ is hitting the teenage year with an enthusiasm that takes my breath away and contributes healthily to my ever growing head of grey hairs….. God help me!

Friends I enjoy all the chatter on the e-mail and sadly will not be able to attend the reunion I had hoped it would be possible but it just is not. I hope you all have a wonderful evening full of great memories and loads of fun and laughter. I swear that come hell or high water I will be at our 40 year celebration. Perhaps slightly more wrinkled but certainly in good spirits.

Friends thank you for making my school year exciting and fun. Keep the air waves open; this way there will be NO searching for you in 2028. Pascal thank you for arranging everything I know you have done a great job.

Reunion update

Hi everyone

Just a quickie to let you know that to date, the following people have confirmed their attendance at the reunion by having paid their R220:

Gina Rodrigues
Delilah Da Mata
Catterina Hasselhorst
Barbara Chochola
Fleur Hirst
Dora Kovaks
Christina Eliakis
Tracey Sevenoaks
Pascale Schroenn
Melina Economou
Grace Viera

Our payment deadline was 15 November (tomorrow) as we were due to meet the caterer to finalise everything on Monday afternoon, but the meeting has been postponed to Wednesday afternoon, so we have scored a bit more time for anyone else still wanting to attend. Please be advised that we need to make all the arrangements in advance as everything needs to be hired in, so unfortunately you won’t be able to just pay on the day. The reunion will go ahead, regardless of how many people we have, but… the more the merrier!

Thank you to everyone that has paid so far! Anyone else still keen to attend, please get your money in by 19 November so we can account for you in the final numbers. If you have paid and your name is not on the list, please mail me & let me know when you made your deposit.

Hope to see you there!
Adios! J

Robyn Seymour-Smith (now Annandale)

When Karen (Little) appeared on my Face Book page - I was blown away - there are so many names and faces - that over time have faded from my memory! It has really taken me back and I am truly surprised at how many fun memories have come flooding back! I too, was not crazy about school - (I did love the social side though!) Any one remember a group of us bunking out at my place and getting a call from Ms Niemeyer giving us 15 minutes to hottrot it back to school? I was dead keen to get out of those BIG BLACK gates!

Like Karen, I left JGHS at the end of Standard 8, and set off for Joubert Park College. We had quite a bit more freedom - uniforms became a thing of the past - and we were (legally) able to head off, out of campus for our "off periods" (although - I must confess - we also made up quite a few "off periods too!) Six weeks before the FINALS - we had to do an assignment (for Communication & Deportment) - we were told to look for a job in the classifieds, book appointments, go for the interview, and then write a report and discuss with the class the outcome! I went off for an interview at a small travel agency, and just loved it - I was invited back for a second interview with the director and finally offered the job. The only snag - I was to start immediately. What to do?? I started on the Monday! At first I told no one (Especially not my Mom)! I went off to college as normal - only I never got off the bus!! I absolutely loved it! And have truly NEVER looked back!

I met Rob in 1990, we got married in 1994 and moved to Harare - Zimbabwe. Having come from the bustle of Jo'burg, Harare took a bit of adjusting to - but we had a fantastic time and both my girls were born there. Jessica was born in July 1998 and Danielle - 13 months later in August 1999. I continued working in the airline industry and loved it! In 2000, my Mom died quite suddenly and my world just fell apart! I could not bear being so far away from my family. So, in 2001, we packed up and headed back down South! We bought a house in Cape Town, and all was good. I went back to work with my second ever boss - so had all but gone full circle. I was doing business development for them, a travel agency (franchise group). I worked from home - so was able to still be there for the girls. Rob is a pilot - so we had long periods apart - not ideal with 2 little girls. Then - in 2004, Rob was offered a job here in Dubai and once again - I packed up home - and here we are 4 years later - just loving Dubai. I haven't worked here in Dubai (I think about it from time to time - maybe one day!) The girls are in Grade 4 an 5 now - so pretty busy just keeping up with their lives (and hectic their social lives). We get loads of visitors all through the year - so - still get to see every one and we try to get back to cape Town at least once a year too!

We are all going to Cape Town on the 1st of December - so I will try and see if I can change my ticket and perhaps fly via Joburg 2 days earlier.

The reunion sounds like it is gong to be a real blast (from the past).!

Reunion details & other things

Hi everyone

I got together with Melina and Catterina over the weekend to start finalising things for the reunion. There are a couple of things I want to "chat" to you all about.

VENUE:
The reunion will take place here in Johannesburg on Sat the 29th of November from 4pm till 10pm. The venue is up on Northcliff hill and has a beautiful view over Jhb so we thought we could start off with some sundowners. Attached is the invite with the address, map and directions.

PAYMENT:
Melina has organised a caterer who has given us a quote which includes the food (Menu is attached), chairs, tables, crockery, cutlery etc . The cost per head will be R220. The caterer will need a deposit by 15 Nov 2008 so in order to confirm your place, please would you make your payment by no later than 15 Nov 2008. Also please note, we will not be able to give any refunds on cancellations after 15 November. Since Melina is dealing with the caterer, I will give you her bank details in which to make your payment. Then she will be able to pay the caterer the total amount in one go on the 15th. Everyone that does a deposit will receive an e-mail, confirming receipt of payment. I am happy to share the details of the management of the money - just in case anyone thinks that we are going to take the bucks & head off to Mauritius for the week! (Haha!).

Her bank details are:
M Economou
Nedbank
Espom Downs
Current account: 1522036598

Please put your name and maiden name down as the reference for us please. Thanks

DRINKS:
Please would you bring what you would like to drink and we will have one of those large ice buckets to keep your drinks cool.

LINK-UP TO UK:
Catterina mentioned that a friend of hers also had their reunion recently and managed to have 2 simultaneously with a group in the UK and a group in SA. Seeing that there are so many of you in the UK, I thought this was a fab idea. It's quite simple to set up using skype, a laptop with a webcam and a projector and white screen/wall on either side. I should be able to organise this from our side. I have chatted to Laura about this and she is going to co-ordinate with Kate to see what they can set up on that side. So if anyone is able to help them that would be great. It might be difficult for us all to crowd around the computer at the same time but we can take turns and certainly catch up and hear from everyone. So for this I need to know:

1. Are all of you in the UK keen to get together on your side on the 29th of November?

2. If so, has someone got access to the equipment in the UK that we need to set that up? Please chat to Laura and Kate about that and keep me in the loop please. Thanks.

HELP FINDING:
We have not managed to track the following girls - please have a look and see if you remember names and if you might know of how to contact them. IAll help will be appreciated. I am quite sure I have left out people as we only had our class photos to go by and luckily Catterina had written down everyone's names on the back of the photo - clever girl. If there are any others we have left off - please let me know. Thanks.
