Sarah

Ok, I decided since I'm putting in everyone else, I might as add me too.

I was married to Darren (some of you will remember him) for 3 years and remarried, Simon, and have been married now for 13 years. We have two wonderful children, Taylor (9) and Jonty (5) and we live in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. We left SA in 2000 and moved to the UK where we lived for 4 years (around the corner from where Roxanne now lives in Milton Keynes). We were moving to Australia when Simon's company asked us if we wanted to come to the US instead & we took it. So here we are. I was a graphic designer for 11 years, working in the music industry and have since changed careers to a self employed photographer, which I just love.

And now I'm a blogger :-) That's about me in a nutshell.

I'm really enjoying getting all of this together. I hope you're finding it useful. Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to do or add.

Thanks,
Sarah

Yet another class photo

Back row from left Kate Miller , ? Fiona(I think) ,Dale burning, Jacqui Forrester and Sharon trombas.
Second row Yvonne, Dora, ? Cathy ? ? Laura(I think)
Third row Can’t remember many of them
Fourth row ? Patricia, Chantel , Mrs Garcia Fleur ? ?

It's so much fun to see the old class photos. How deep are you girls digging? And what's written on the back? That would be fun to see if anyone can send those in. I know my husband had read the back of mine & had some questions with funny looks :-)

Angela

Angela with her husband Sean

Daughter Luaren (11)

and her son, Julian, 14

I met Sean in 1988 and we have been together now for 20 years and 15 of them we have been married. We have two very different but wonderful children. Julian is the brainbox and is on a scholarship in a private school but he really works hard for it, Lauren on the other hand sails through life like a feather in the wind, she is bright but very lazy and would rather be making jewellery than doing homework but gets good results much to Julian's horror. It already seems like a lifetime that we have been together and I told Sean that after 10 years each more year will be negotiable which seems to be working out. Other than that we live very ordinary lives.

Stories from Fleur

Think short-hand teacher was Mrs Uzvark (spelling - unknown) she had the wig, that I'm sure many tried to pull off.

Shame I remember Maria (who remembered EVERYONES birthday dates) having the epilectic fits. Shame she had it real hard at school.

The teacher that rode the motorbike was lasbian, I think - cannot think of her name.

Miss Burnett (deputy) also school councillor - I remember I used to mess with her head - cos I was sent to her so often.

& Who can forget climbing those huge black gates at school when we left the school to bunk.

Alison

I'm a bellydance teacher and I make costumes..........

I got a "pay the bills" office job straight out of school and studied fashion design part time. Been working for myself for 10 years and Dancing for 8 years. I opened my own studio this year. I have a 9 year old daughter Erin. Her dad and I split up about 5 years ago, we were never married. Ive been seeing an old friend Mike for about 3 years now.

Stories from Christina - with scary photo

If anyone has nightmares from this photo tonight - it's not my fault :-)

Boy do I remember Killian the whiskey & coke!!!

Do you all remember the only male teacher we had : Mr. Viennant - gay galore, would hang out at Angela Bant's hotel on the first floor - gay floor !! He used to kick us out before we even entered his class, funny little man that one!

I remember Miss Garcia - would call her Madonna, loads of make up and sexy clothing!

No one mentioned out headmistress the Bat, Miss Niemeyer - who would walk around the school in her black cloak!! Shame I wonder if she is still alive, we would joke and say that she sleeps upside down on her chandeliers at night

My favourite teacher was Miss Kelly - history teacher.

Binda caught me bunking in the toilets (smoking too) and had a total fit but never told !!! Guess she had one good streak in her.

Do you all remember our school fashion shows and Miss JGHS, was quite a laugh. In facebook there is a group Johannesburg High school for girls and JHB HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS - PREP SCHOOL - 1970'S & 1980'S PUPILS if you join you can see more pics of teacher's and your mates.

And some stories from Kate

Oh my god……I had Killian for Business Economics…Passed every test in her class with the text book sitting open on my lap (until the dreaded finals that is). I remember clearly getting together with Tracy and swapping her Coke (and brandy) on her desk for straight coke. She was furious when she realized her drink had been tampered with.
Teachers I remember….
Mrs Binda Maths (chewing gum detention)
Mrs Garcia Biology (god does anyone remember her long false yellow painted nails? And her mini skirts)
Mrs Forbes Geography
Mrs Raubenheimer English and zulu
Mrs Kelly History
Mrs Killian Business economics and typing.

The other thing that has sprung to mind was our school disco’s……Pale at the thought of what we all used to wear and who we bought to them as dates. Shudder !!! The clothes and the hairstyles….Only went to two of them and remember nearly dying when my father arrived RIGHT outside the gates to fetch me at 12.(So not cool)
Also does anyone remember Belinda Best????? Now there is a blast from the past……..

A Few Funny Stories from Terri

Terri emailed these stories and I thought I would include them. I do have some photos of Terri somewhere and will put them up too.

Felicity, I remember the Afrikaans teacher, her name was Mrs van Dam.

Do you remember the April fools stunt we pulled on her? I pretended to faint in class and you and 3 other girls had to carry me out of class. We laughed so loud we thought she’d hear. I remember Carla having a go at her coz I wanted to go to the toilet (as part of the plan) and Mrs van Dam didn’t let me go. Even when we revealed that it was an April fool’s joke, she still didn’t get it.

Bless, she was not the brightest crayon in the class.

Remember Mrs Killian? She used to fall asleep, or rather pass out in the staff room.

Those of us that did typing will remember the glass of brandy/whisky & coke on her table.

Kate

Tim, Sam, Kate & Scott - these were taken on holiday

Kate and I have remained good friends over the years, so I can fill in a bit for her (sorry lovie). Kate has two children, Sam & Tim, from a previous marriage and has been with Neal now for, gosh, I can't remember how many years, but I'm going to say about 8 or 9. They have a son together, Scott, and they live in Scotland. And they are getting married this year and I'm going to be very lucky to see her because they are doing a road trip through the South (of the US) for their honeymoon. I'm really looking forward to that.

Dora

Dora & Yvonne - looks like you girls were having lots of fun

Here's some photos from Dora. She will be giving us a little sneak peak into what's she's been up to on Monday & I'll update then.

Christina (Tina)

Tina with her husband Stelio

Tina, Yvonne, Fleur & Dora, summer 2007

Tina has been living in Athens for the past 18 yrs. She got married in July 2002 to Stelio. No kiddies yet. She has been working in the shipping industry for the past 14 yrs (Salvage & Towage) in the Legal Department.

Fleur

Here's some photos from Fleur, with her sweetheart husband, Donovan, of 3 years (together for 23 - wow) and their two daughter, Megan & Micaela.

Melina & the gorillas

Talk about having an adventure. Here's Melina (she pointed out she's the one in red in the front of the dance photo), looking incredibly close to the gorillas in Rwanda. Wow!

A Matric Dance Photo

Here's a photo found by Christina from the matric dance. I can recognize a few faces, but I'll let you fill in the names. Everyone looks great. How much hair spray was actually used that night? :-)

Another day

Good morning - well, it's morning for me in the US. The kids are upstairs eating breakfast before school so I thought I'd sneak to my studio to quickly update from all of the messages from today.

Here's a different photo of Felicity, looking absolutely incredible.

And here's a photo of her son Shane.

I will make sure that I update with all of the other photos in a bit.

Some of the photos from today

Alison, who I think looks completely the same. How have you managed it?

Anne Darroch's very cute children. We'd love to see a photo of you too Anne.

Pascale, Nicole & Roxanne. I think this was taken in England.

Sue Eber with her two children, Tori, the teenager, and Kade, her new baby. Another one who had just not changed at all :-)

This is me (Sarah) with my family, husband Simon, daughter Taylor (9) & son Jonty (5)

I don't have all of the photos which were going around today, so please send them to me with details and I'll make sure I get them up on the blog.

The Reunion

I guess I had better mention the reunion - hey?

From what I know, it's going to be on the 1st of November. I don't think a venue has been decided on yet, but somewhere in Jo'burg. Although, with so many of us being scattered everywhere, pick a country & you could have enough girls to attend.

As soon as we know any more details, we'll post them. Pascale is the point person who is planning everything, so I'm sure she'll keep us updated.

Another class photo

I was able to get the photo of the site. I thought I had posted two. I'll have to find the other one. I'll also try to get the photos Kate had emailed earlier.

I'm going to attempt to name everyone. I can't remember everyone's names, and please forgive me when I do get some names wrong. Hell, I've had 2 children and my brain cells are a little ... well, you know what I mean :-)

Top row: Tracy, ?, Terri
Second row: Saskia (is that right?), Delora (I think that's right), Sarah (me), Felicity, Janet, Karen
Third row: Wendy, ?, Heidi, Colleen, ?, Alison, ?
Fourth row: Maria (I think that's it), Sharon, Teach (can't remember her at all), Casandra, ?, ?

So, if anyone could fill in the gaps, or rather question marks, that would be great. And my sorries to anyone I got wrong.

One of the class photos

So, here's one of our first class photos which was sent in. I will try to figure out through all of the emails who everyone is, but if you know, please leave a comment and we'll work it all out. I know I have posted 2 more photos on SA Reunited, and I'll try to find a way to get them on here as well.
